Last weekend, we had been to this Island called Hönö very close to Göteborg. We had been to a colleagues place, and spent sometime at the sea shore.

Though some islands like Hönö, Öckerö etc are a part of Göteborg, there is no bridge that connects this to another island(Hisingen, where I live). There are many people who live in that island and commute to Göteborg every day. There is this giant ferry, that ferries between the islands. People can get inside the ferry with their cars, and then get down at the other shore. Its a ten minute journey and a nice one.

Initially we went to the harbour area, where some festival was going on in the morning.

At the western end of Hönö, there is a small forest which leads to the sea shore. This place is called Ersdalen, and is quite scenic and beautiful. The weather in Göteborg had been very dull for past few weeks and luckily for us, it was just right last Saturday.

Last Friday we had a holiday, since it was midsummer’s day in Sweden. The weather forecast for Göteborg was not quite good. Rain and wind was predicted. And there are no more holidays for next few months. Just the right time to get out of the house, is what myself and couple of my colleagues decided. We went to this camping site called Duse Udde(www.duseudde.se), quite close to the town Säffle and the lake Vänern. The drive was quite good. Initially we bought all the stuff required for camping like tents, sleeping bags and groceries for cooking.

We reached Säffle by around 8 in the night, and the sun was shining quite bright. Initially we were allotted a slot quite close to the lake. But we liked the area in the middle of woods, better and shifted there. It took around 10 minutes to pitch the tent. There were quite a few mosquitoes and luckily we didn’t face any issues because of that. After pitching the tent, we went for a walk around the place and had a nice time near the lake. Later, we went to the common cooking area for preparing dinner. The common area had a television set and we were able to catch the live action of Euro 2008(Croatia vs Turkey). After watching the entire match, we retired for the day. It was my first time staying inside a tent. It was quite nice. Once I got inside the sleeping bag, I didn’t find any difference. It was a nice 15 degrees Celsius and not that cold. Sometime in the middle of the night, a bird started pecking the tent from top and I had to literally shout ‘Shoo’ to shoo away the bird. I was kind of trapped inside the sleeping bag and didn’t want to get out.

Next day, we hired a cycle and went around the camp and the forests near by. Its been a very long time since I rode a bicycle. But after enjoying the ride for around 3 hours, I would say that was the best part of my trip. I am not sure if it has to do with the route, the weather, my mood, experience of riding a bicycle. But it was excellent.

After a while, we rested near the shore of the lake. There was a solitary motor boat, and the view from there was quite nice. The sun was shining brightly, and there was a gentle breeze. I think I was there close to an hour or so. We cycled for close to 20 kms that day.

Later we went to the restaurant inside the camping area for lunch. The only meal we had outside, as it was extremely expensive. After a heavy meal, we rested for a while and did some more activities like riding a Kayak (Canoe) boat, motor boat(We get to control the boat), volleyball, golf (Its very nice). By the time we reached the cooking area for dinner, the match between Russia and Netherlands had just begun. What a match it was? Arshavin is too good.
Next day, we returned to Göteborg. This was one of the most physically active trips, which I completely enjoyed. I am quite motivated now to start cycling regularly, and go on these camping trips frequently. Meanwhile the entire set of photos is available here. Please check.

I have been using a 3G enabled phone for quite sometime, but till date did not use it. After coming to Sweden, I was looking at various broadband options and finally settled on 3. Though I have a 3G enabled phone, I had to buy the modem as well. All one needed was a 3G SIM Card. I get to connect to internet at an average speed of 3-4 MBPS with topspeed reaching 6 MBPS at times. Mobile browsing has never been better. Far better than GPRS or EDGE.

I personally feel it would be great if Vodafone and Airtel launch this in India, after the TRAI approves it. Any idea why there is a delay in launching 3G in India? Every 6 months, we get to read news reports that 3G would be launched in 6 months. It will be good, specially for people living in areas where BSNL is the only option! And for people who are on the move

“These people want others to be hanged. What are you doing? You are saying don’t hang that person (Singh) and you say hang this person (Guru) here,” Patil said and added that law would take its own course.

Sarabjit Singh’s case is one of mistaken identity. How can one equate that with a terrorist? And we have such a person as a home minister. No wonder the terrorists are feeling at home over here and attacking quite frequently. I think UPA can change its name to TPA. Terrorist Protection Alliance.

BTW, Afzal Guru is an Indian Citizen.

I think ARR has thrown a challenge to all reviewers with this album. Listening to the songs one gets a feeling that ARR is trying to convey ‘Ok. Now review this.’ I have been trying to write my opinion for quite some time. I have never struggled this much

Ishq Ada (Male Version) - Singer: Rashid Ali Lyrics: Raqueeb Alam Duration: 3.37
One of the songs which I started liking in the first hearing itself. Sounds quite european and very melodious. Rashid Ali has done an amazing job. Everytime he continues after an interlude, you do not get a feeling that there was a pause. His frequency perfectly matches the interludes. Maybe it is so in all songs, but in this song the frequency synchronisation caught my attention. Special mention must be made to the section after 2.19. For the first twelve seconds, the interludes are amazing (Does anyone know what the instrument is?) and the pitch in which Rashid Ali continues after that is amazing. Dont miss the section where he goes ‘Ohh’, and then switches to high pitch. Lovely song.

Hawa Sun Hawa -Singers: Sonu Nigam & Alka Yagnik Lyrics: Nusrat Badr Duration: 6.01
Sonu Nigams Hat trick starts here. I like the way Alka Yagnik starts singing. Her voice blends, if I may use that word, perfectly with the flute. This song has ‘Vintage ARR’ stamped all over it. I wish he reuses this tune for a tamil movie Atleast the flute bit between 1.44 and 2.00. Lengthy song but every second is worth it.

Ghum Sum - Singers: Sonu Nigam & Alka Yagnik Lyrics: Nusrat Badr Duration: 4.20
Sonu and Alka Yagnik at it again. If it was flute in the previous song, it is guitar in this song. The string interludes are top notch. Something in the lines of Munbe vaa or Nenjamellam kaadhal. But its not that lengthy in this song. The drum beat between 3.40 and 3.44 is quite unexpected and funny

Gulfisha - Singers: Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan and Vivian Chaix Lyrics: Nusrat Badr Duration: 4.43
Sonu nigam’s at it again! Vivian Chaix starts chanting and then we get to hear the song, that you might hear frequently in FM Radio. This song reminds me of the Maaricham song from sillunu oru kaadhalAda ada hai ada tere ada ne jaane kya kiya? Peppy number, when compared to other songs in this album. Has ARR used the japanese bamboo flutes in this song? Sunidhi has lots of variations in this song, and she has done a neat job.

Meherbaan - Singer: AR Rahman Lyrics: Raqueeb Alam Duration: 3.51
Another NewYork Nagaram. Whats the special connection between ARR and ‘Tere Bina’? I think this song might be a part of the future concerts. I can visualize ARR playing the piano and singing ‘Tu hai nadhiya main hoon sangam’, whilst blaaze is holding the microphone next to him. Wonderful song to listen, while you are going on a long drive or rather on a walk. Was ARR thinking about this song, when this photograph was taken? If you are tense or upset or angry, please listen to this song. Peace!

Tu Mera Hai - Singers: Chitra, Sukhwinder Singh & Naresh Iyer Lyrics: Nusrat Badr Duration: 4.57
The way Chitra sings ‘Tu Mera mera mera hai’ it reminds me of some other ARR song. I am not able to place which one. For the first 1 minute of the song, there is nothing but interludes and Chitra singing ‘Tu mera mera mera hai yaara’. Similar to Thee Thee, where there is more of interludes and the first stanza, and not much lyrics otherwise. Sukhwinder has sung like how he has sung in ‘Water’, and not his usual energetic self. Nice. Till the end I was wondering when Naresh Iyer would appear in the song.

Hai Dard - Singer: Udit Narayan Lyrics: Nusrat Badr
The way the song starts, one might assume it is a peppy number. But all of a sudden you get to hear Udit Narayan pouring his heart out. Once again, whats the instrument that appears in the beginning of the song? And is it the same instrument between 0.17 and 0.21? Pathos song, sung perfectly by Udit Narayan. His pronounciations are spot on! Not to forget the voice in the background. I wonder if there is a flashback sequence of happier moments in this song, somewhere between 2.40 and 2.50 as the music in that particular portion is quite different from the songs tune.

Ishq Ada (Female version) - Singer: Parul Mishra
When I first heard this song, I was wondering if something was wrong in my car CD player. It starts with Ada hai, sada hai, dua hai. The male version had isha ada hai, ishq dua hai etc. Parul was the winner of the Fever talent hunt competition that was held in Delhi, before the November concert. If you listen to this song, you will know why she is a worthy winner. During the concert she sung a very tough song from Zubeidaa very well. There are slight variations from the male version, not just in the tune but also in the usage of instruments. Dream debut for Parul in which she scores a six of the first ball. Great talent! Listen to her alaap in the middle. We need more songs from Parul

Milo Wahan Wahan Singers: Alka Yagnik & Jayachandran Lyrics: Nusrat Badr Duration: 6.24
Jayachandran after a long time. Lovely voice, perfect modulation. Why doesnt he get that many chances? Apart from Jayachandrans voice, what makes this song a very pleasant one is the usage of violin and the way Alka Yagnik has sung it. Need to listen some more time. One interesting thing to observe is the pause in between lines, with no music in between.

Meherbaan (Instrumental) Guitar: Sanjeev Thomas Duration: 3.01
If there is one thing I miss(Yes, I am being greedy here) in this album, its the lack of instrumental for all the songs. No disrespect to any of the singers, but I wish we had an instrumental version for all the 9 songs. Just listen to the instrumental of Meherbaan. You will understand why I am saying this.

This is one album I had been waiting for quite sometime. According to some interviews, this movie has been in the making for quite sometime. And the music has been composed over a period of time. It definitely shows us interesting glimpses of BOSS’s musical journey.

Finally, in the interview to Kalaignar TV ARR mentioned that whenever he likes a song a lot he plays it to Mani sir. I wonder if this is the first album, apart from mani sir movies, for which he played all the songs to Mani sir.

Thank you BOSS for taking us on a wonderful musical journey, via ADA

PTC na enna?
For the first twenty minutes, you really wonder whether this is a Vijayakanth movie. Very unpredictable and has all the setting for a thriller. Few people get killed by killers, who are anything but stereotype killers. And as expected a special officer is appointed to investigate. Once again, there is a twist. The special officer is not Captain. Well, Captain has always been an aapeesarr. I was wondering if this movie will turn out to be like a non-captainish captain movies like Sathriyan, Ramana etc. But then, Captain knows how his die hard fans peel. Sorry. Feel. So, we get to hear some amazing dialogues from a girl who says ‘Neenga ippadi dhaan pesitte irupeenga. Ennoda tension unga yaarukume puriyalai. Enakku Bayama irukku. Unga kitta solli waste. Yaara koopadnum nu enakku theriyum’. Exactly. She read the mind of every captain fan. And then. And then. And then

We see a few wooden boards flying here and there. Each board is shaped like a thief and they keep moving. Suddenly you hear gun shots. Captain enters with deepavali cape thupaaki and blasts all the wooden boards. And then a wooden board in the shape of a girl appears. Captain will pause and smile. He wont hurt women you see? But one thing that I felt jarring was captains costume. He is in black and white, and not in police brown. Later when he falls on the sand bags and sacks, you understand his dressing sense. You should be able to differentiate between the sack and captain right? Thats why he is not brown clad.
PTC na Pallavan Transport Corporation aa?
Captain is the head of officers training academy, but a crimonologist by hobby. He starts with an inspirational speech ‘Neenga ellam houje rent allowanje, DA idhukaagava ispesal trainingkku vandhu irukeenga? No No. Idha vacchi oru dapple bedroom flat kooda vaanga mudiyadhu. Pinna edhukku vandhu irukkom? Jaab satispacson. Kettadha azhikarom ngra Drupdi(trupthi)’. Some of the words captain uses during the training are ‘Andenaa(Antenna), incept(intercept), versan(version), degode(decode), engode(encode)’, ipaadu(ipod), bulsor(pulsar). Being a captain fan helps in incept cha intercepting captains dialaags.

Then we have a flashback in which captain goes to the bank to take a DD. But since the person in the counter is rude, captain decides to complain to the manager. To our surprise we have the beautiful heroine(paavam) as the bank manager. Captain is stunned by her beauty and blabbers like ‘Gounder edukka vandhen DD la aaL illai. Sorry. DD edukka vandhen Gounder(counter) la aaL illai’. Anyways, Captain falls in love and she agrees to marry him. Her brother puts only one condition. ‘Neenga adhigam pesa koodadhu’. Captain paathu ippadi sonna mudhal and kadaisi aaL avar dhaan.
PTC na Police Training College
The girl refuses to marry him after she comes to know he is from Police Training College and not Pallavan. Muruga! Later all is well, and we get to see the first duet. 43 minutes after the movie starts. For the first time in history, we have the transcript between choreographer and Captain
Choreo: Sir. Pul la padunga sir.
Vijayakanth: Cooling glass(Goggles) oda va?
Choreo: Aaama sir. Appadiye pana maratahula vavaala paarunga
Vijayakanth: OK
Choreo; Sir. Stand up. Heroine right la vizhuvaanga. Dupatta va maalayai aa aaki avangala pidinga
Vijayakanth: OK
Choreo: Sir
Vijayakanth: Theriyum. Heroine left la dhaane vizhuvaanga?
Choreo: Sir. Fast aa nadanga sir. Appuram konjam reverse la nadanga sir. Heroine pinaala saaivanga sir. Back la irundha avangala pidinga sir.
Vijayakanth: Avanga iduppula pidikanuma?
Choreo: Illai sir. Enga neenga andha madhiri panniduveengalo appadinu avanga kaiyaala marachipaanga sir. Neenga correct aa avanga kaiya pidicha porum.
(Check image)
Choreo: Sir. Jeep oattunga sir. Ayyo sir. Adhu tractor illai. Jeep.

After this the movie gets back to non captainish captain movie, and gets very interesting. Operation Braindead is the theme for the next half hour, where captain discovers about the undeclared war. Normal cine goers might like this part of the movie, as it seems to be very logical to the utter dismay of Captain regulars.

Later, the story and captain move to Canada where captain utters punch dialogues like ‘Naan oru adi eduthu vakkaradhukku munnadi pinnadi pathu adi paarpen. Adhu bayam illai. Munechcharikkai’. Being Chiranjeevai(literal meaning, not the telugulu super lu star lu), Captain foils all the death attempts with help of another good looking babe(Ayyo paavam). Then, we get to see our captain in full acsan as he says ‘Acsan first formaalie(formality) negst’, ‘Ovvoru manushanukkum edhiriye avan manasula irukkara paasam dhaan’, ‘Ennada. Velai pesariya. poNam vikkara broker nee.’ Captain cares a damn about formalities in Canada and tries to investigate in his own way causing major discomfort to the second heroine.

Finally, after what seems an enternity we reach the climax(ouch!) err the end of the movie. Villain tries to kill captain by sending 100 white pigs. He he Do I need to say Captain escapes? By the way i forgot to tell. Heroine is deaf. She also joins the bandwagon to save the nation. And since she is afraid, captain will convince her to keep away from it she removes her hearing aid. Brilliant! And then we have the physics defying moment in the climax. Captain and villain are in second floor mottai maadi. They jump down towards the railway track vertically and when the train crosses, the horizontally enter the train. I better go and catch hold of my physics professors who failed to teach me these things. I feel cheated.

Anyways, with that train fight movie ends. Its a very different captain movie. There are enough dose of captain comedy for his die hard fans, and there are many logical scenes for normal cine goers. But somewhere the diector misses the plot and fails to convince anyone. Neither the normal cine goer, nor a captain fan. But still I would suggest all captain fans to watch this movie atleast once.

Post Script: At the end of the movie they say Captain went on a padh yatra all over India and lots of youth joined his movement, and India became a superpower in 5 years.
