ECR is good till cuddalore. tolll road is only till Pondy. Then you have to take d pondy bypass & reach the cuddalore road. Road from pondy to cuddalore is good . It should take not more than 40 minutes (With decent traffic)
We once started at six in the morning from chennai (ashok nagar ) & reached cuddalore around 7 30.
Pondy via dindivanam is also good. It is safe since road is four lane and has median.
Avoid ECR in night.

Glad to know Cuddalore is only 1.5 hrs via ECR.
