Are you a Rajni fan? Then you will definitely enjoy Sivaji. His mannerisms, style, dialogues etc are really good. So you will really enjoy the movie for Rajni’s style. Especially the cameo in second half. I advise you not to read the review further. Its not worth your time.

Sivaji is a movie where Shankar takes Rajni and Rajni fans for a ride. Fine, Rajni fans dont want any logic and they want to enjoy their Thalaivar’s screen presence. But would they complain if the movie had some story and some logic? I dont think any Rajni fan held a gun on Shankar’s forehead and said ‘I hereby threaten you not to make a movie with logic, sentiment and some good story line’. When thats the case, why on earth does Shankar make such a movie? Forget other movies. Its not good when compared with other Rajni movies, Baba excluded.

Sivaji is like a Airbus A-380. Huge, gigantic, excellent use of technology etc. As in good cast, top class technicians. Super Music. Sexy(Shriya) air hostesses who deliberately drop something in front of you, so that they can bend and expose their body via their low cut dresses. Amazing Pilot(Rajni), with an excellent track record. Good support from Vivek and others. But whats the point? The engine is not that of a A-380. It is of a TVS-50. As a result the movie fails to take off.

Looks like half way through the movie production, Rajni got frustrated and said ‘Shankar. Enough of this nonsense. Can we have some decent story please?’ As a result major portions of the second half is good. This movie is worth watching just for the Mottai Boss sequence. Suman was ok ok. Nothing compared to Neelambari or Baasha Raghuvaran. Villain mela kovam, bayam edhuvume illai.

The build up to Rajni’s character was very weak. If someone had to have some sympathy for Rajni in this movie, for what he goes through then some effort needs to go in portraying the character right? Instead of spending so much time in wooing Shriya, scenes like Rajni and Raghuvaran trying to rescue a small boy could have been used in plenty. That was nice. Thats another reason why I left the movie hall irritated. Shankar does know to make good scenes. Then why is he hell bent on taking scenes like the one in Solomon papayya’s home? Lesser said about the lunch party for Shriyas family, the better.

The songs have been picturised really well. Especially Athiradi. I somehow felt that could have been used as Rajni intro song instead of Ballelaka. BTW was Ballelaka taken somewhere around Mahabaleshwar? That river reminded me of Koyna river. Rajni’s make up is good for major part of the movie. Viveks punch dialogues making fun of idiots like Simbhu is hilarious, and Oru Koodai sunlight song picturisation was too good. Stunt sequences are nice. I liked almost all the fight sequences. And graphics was pretty impressive. Especially the part where the car goes inside king kong’s mouth :) I couldn’t hear much of the BGM, as it was the 2nd day and Rajni fans made their presence felt ;)

Rajni was very good and extremely stylish, Shriya beautiful, Raghuvaran wasted, Vivek excellent, AR Rahman brilliant, KV Anand amazing, Thottatharani unbelievable, Anthony sharp, AVM liberal, Shankar uninspiring. If this movie is a definition for entertainment, sorry, I dont want to be entertained. I guess Shankar can stick to producing movies and stop directing. He reminds me of yesteryear T Rajendar. All brahmaandam with no story.
