The only real solution to this problem is the abolition of the evil caste system. And that solution lies in the hands of the current young generation.

Each one should do something to take of the identity of caste in a small/big way. Caste-nnu onnu irundhaa thaane reservations varum?

As an afterthought, I do like the concept of reservations.. But in a different way..
For example: If a guy or a girl from a very poor background scores good marks but cannot afford a rich engineering or medical college, A reservation should exist. A reduction in fees or a loan arrangement should be possibly made from the Government side. This way, the needy will really benefit.

So, the flexibility should not be in the SEAT arrangements but in the FEES arrangement. Hope something happens like this!

ferro,

forget the bandh call, technically, most-likely it (the bandh call) will not amount to dis-obeying the SC order. It can be termed as expression of anguish by losing-side, which every court, anywhere in the world, lives-with and shrugs-off. You are bothered about this smaller issue, when a bigger issue - a blatant disrespect to court itself - did not have any impact on the court and got only a thick skined response. Rememeber, minister arcot veerasamy's statement against madras high court in a public meeting in front of CM karunanidhi, which the CM didn't even bother to condemn even mildly?

The only pillar of democracy that can take official punishing act for disrespecting it(its order) - the court - nowadays is lethargic about these acts. Perhaps the court itself feels that the law of punishment for its disrespect is an anachronistic one. If I am not wrong, in recent past a former CJI himself had expressed a view of removing this law.

This aside, things are going to be very interesting how the OBC quota case is going to take turn. My friend Srinivasan feels & points out that this case is not a open & shut case that the SC can throw away the quota as infringement of equality. The ploy employed by SC -asking for enumeration - may not work. Interesting, isn't it? Read further on it in his blog and in his reply to my comment in the comment section:
