Dear NN,
I am getting married pretty soon. But the thing is, I don’t know how to tie a Dhoti. Am scared if it will fall down. And I haven’t worn blazer, tie and stuff in my life
Is there some person who teaches these things?

Dear Vesh.Tee,
Dont worry about the Dhoti part. The Sasthrigal will teach you how to wear it. Its the part of the package. Just remember, not to take a deep breath whilst the sasthrigal is tying the Dhoti. Its ok. He wont go and tell people that you have a tummy. And forget about the blazer and tie stuff. A bunch of your close friends/relatives and some from the girls side(Carefully shortlisted by the brides father) will come to help you(Ishtamithra Bandhus). You might wonder, what 6 to 8 people are doing in your room. But then thats the way these relatives are pacified by the families. That they are so important, they get into the bridegrooms room when he is getting ready. One of them will be knowing to wear the tie. but just pray that 2 or more dont know. If that happens, you might end up being a test piece for showcasing their tie knot
All the best!

Good one! :-)It is actually quite weird to have people around you in the dressing room when all your life you’ve been taught to dress by yourself!!

I ve always wondered what went on inside the dressing rooms… Buthi therinji didnt go to any close relative’s marriage… But had the oppurtunity when my best friend got married.. Its actually fun there… not much to complain.. all relatives joking, and keeping up the tempo… So many suggestions… Nallathan irunthuthu.. Maybe NN would know at his wedding (in case he isnt married already )
Btw, why so many kalyana kelvigal to NN ???

you are not going to believe it. My FIL tried teaching me how to wear a tie at the reception. he found out that I hated it and his attempt at bonding with the “tie” experience was actually backfiring. so he tied it around his neck, then transferred the whole thing with the knot to my neck. I still had that knot 7 years later and used it everytime I had to interview !!!
and dont worry about the panchakachcham either. they will wake you up the day of the wedding at say 4:30 am (guys with pipi, thavil etc. will come to your door) they will pour cold water on your head to wake you up, then the saasthrigal will teach you how to wear it. he might even say “nalla paththukko pa. inime nee ippidi dhan veshti kattanum!”. you can only glare at him with murderous rage, because the wedding will be stopped if you actually murder him!
you have no idea what awaits you ferro..
