By demolishing the house of MS Dhoni. If you bloody dont understand what losing is, nor have the heart to accept it, stop watching the bloody game. Scoundrels. How will you react if your project manager or someone from your company, come and demolish your house? Just because there was a bug in the code you had written? What MS Dhoni did was not a crime. But what you are doing is. And the policemen happily look at the proceedings, without doing anything. Half the rascals bunk office, or leave early to watch matches. And they have the bloody audacity to go and burn effigies? You are not even worth of a effigy, remember that. I am really ashamed to say, these people are also my countrymen. Chee!

Thats what happens when a jobless, cricket crazy, vulnerable mob with no-self-control get together.
They either worship their deities (cricketers in this case) or burn their effigies.

How do you know that they were not paid goondas and they were common men who have a day job? Assumption is a game just like you assume men to be what they are these men assume Dhoni,Sachin or anyone for that matter to be run making robots. Yep the mood of the people is down and they use media to vent out their frustrations. Even a semi-cultured soul will stop at that and continue his daily work. Try to be more intelligent and wise in making assumptions. You can do it.

Well first i am not supporting the arrogance happened and its not a new thing in india. earlier players got slipper mala also. thats a different debate and i agree with you.
but the more rewards you get esp more than your talent then you will get screwed later. thats it. by any way.
that created a huge expectation among the fans. i understand dhoni didnt do anything wrong but the other flip side is he is representing me, u , he is representing tamil nadu, he is representing karnatka, he is representing india.
we can agree, accept defeat.
example Aus Vs Ind match -lost world cup.
We lost to AUS in a convincable manner.
Every body cribs but didn’t burnt any effigy.
Its understood that its a white paper gap or we gave back our strenghts against mighty people. cool.
we cannot accept outrageous, utter low rated, under performance defeat.
what kind of sportsmanship people has. its not table tennis, foot ball, where there are few list of fan followers.
Its a legacy game among indians for the past 30 years.( may be one of the few games we keep track). if brazil has football then once we proudly say india has cricket.
so players should be extra cautious in playing things else it moots senstive thing.
i have seen hard-core cricketrs who doesn’t know rules but play amazing cricket in their village. no harm in getting offend against dormant people. ( again i am not trying to say or wanted the violence what happened. its is wrong ).
All i wanted to say is 13th member squad took the challenge lightly and screwed the indians happiness and mark an shamefull event in the calendar.
May be they can comeback in a stronger way to hold the trophy who knows and every body would be happy to taste the victory.
Game is all about Context, that moment of performance, winning taste, that spirit who can entasis audience energy, “SPORTSMAN SHIP”, give ur soul to play, there are lots u can add.
Yours
yet another road side crazy cricketer, played worst cricket so far in life, but love the game and not the players who spoil the game. Not only cricket any game i believe.

watch out ferrari.. the BCCI has enough money to buy Bangladesh and Srilanka and I dont mean the cricket teams!
these days cricket is a show, not a sport. I was thinking that maybe if the ABI/FBI/CBI/BBI/ZBI etc. followed the money after the India Bangladesh game they might uncover something nasty!
On the plus side, I finally got a chance to apologize to my dad on the last India trip for fighting with him years ago when he said “there is something wrong here.. see the look on that guys face during the replay. he deliberately got out!”.. I found out much later that it WAS indeed a fixed series!
just watch the show and enjoy it if you can.

You should blame the corporate sponsors and the media to a great extent — it was funny to look at a full page ad of Veeru in a daily, when he was in a pitiable form.
Now that he has got a 100 + I do not know what they will do!
And not all the fans are educated, and good losers. When their idol does not perform it is an instantaneous feeling of disappointment..
And the players themselves - and the inner politics - all these play it up
One should always be graceful - win or lose !
on 20 Mar 2007 at 8:50 pm # ...
One thing ferrari… you get so incensed when people react in extremes.. Do you realise that you too are guilty of the same??? (although in the opposite sense)
Mob will be Mob.. If one guy reacts, many will join. Mob is hysteria, mob doesnt have a mind. But men do. Chumma, elathukum kadumaiya kandanam therivikama, write something which would give a logical argument.
Its not only because of his game that Dhoni is able to build his house.. Its cos of the fans too.. Their admiration and their hope is what is feeding these cricketeers wealth.. This can be one argument.. But i m not sayin its correct… There have to be other means to control the money that goes into the under performer’s kitty… If you are on the stage, you should be prepared for the roses as well as the stones…
I dont know why I am countering what you say, even though I might be agreeing with you.. Jus that the way you express your opinions, is way too crude. Or is it a literal translation from the mother tongue that makes it appear crude ?? !!! (Not trying to be sarcastic.. )
on 20 Mar 2007 at 9:48 pm # Sriram
I agree with the anonymous (?) last post.
Not to justify mindless violence, but consider this alternate viewpoint.
If fans were very rational, cricketers will not be rolling in wealth as they do. If getting emotional about failure in a match is senseless, buying a product just because it was endorsed by a cricketer is pretty senseless as well.
Indian Cricketers mostly benefit from irrational worship. May be this the other side of the coin. This is natural.
on 20 Mar 2007 at 10:56 pm # F e r r a r i
…. and Sriram,
See. If the cricketers are what they are today, it is because of their cricketing talent. Not because of fans or sponsors. If fans, had say in the outcome of sport then English football team would have won 3 world cups just because of David Beckham. And Kournikova would have won 6 or 7 grand slams. It is the sponsors and media, who is exploiting the sentiment of sports fans. So, if you feel a player is wrongly hyped show the anger towards the sponsors by not buying their product. How on earth can demolishing a house or burning effigies be right? The land was granted by government. The wealth is provided by sponsors. Not you and me. Do you drink Pepsi, or buy sunfeast biscuits or for that matter, practise yoga just because the stars ask you to do so? In what way you think have the right to destroy their property or abuse them? Lets say I appreciate you(without you asking me) for some 10 months or so. Is it ok, if I abuse at the end of 10 months with the choicest of words. Will you say ‘Ok. He appreciated me for 10 months. So, he has all right to abuse me?’. Do you expect the cricketers to turn down the sponsors or the media hype? Ok, they played badly and got out. So? Its after all a sport. You cant win always. Remember when India won the world cup, they were also underdogs.
….,
I am crude because, something crude has happened. Will you keep quiet if your house is demolished, because you commited some mistake in your work?
on 21 Mar 2007 at 8:19 am # ... :)
Consider these two scenarios
1. Playing for Team India, you play for the country. You get rewarded for the good things & get punished for the wrong things you do at work. The higher the rewards, the nastier the punishments as well. If you do good things, you will be wooed by sponsors, the selectors, fans etc. If you do bad things, effigies burnt, garlanded with slippers etc. They will even demolish your property
2. Working for XYZ Co, you work for XYZ, Same here - you get rewarded for the good things you do & punished for the wrong things. You will be rewarded with a big incentive, promotions, perks, business travel etc. If you do the wrong things, you will be punished with less incentives, ratings, bonuses, delayed promotions. In case you are building the house, you may not have that ‘bonus amount’ you were expecting to payoff the loans. You may not be able to afford the Reid&Taylor suit which you were witing for the year end. Your wife may not get the diamond necklace that you were planning to gift her on your anniversary. So, in a way, they are demolishing your house (if not in the literal sense)
I rest my case! No, can we please move on?
on 21 Mar 2007 at 8:21 am # ... :)
And yes, if they do demolish your housee because of some reason in office, you will have to keep quiet else resign & find another job.
Unfortunately, for Team India, they cannot do that & probably that is why they stick on, waiting for their next reward season or waiting to make more mistakes.

One has to understand that Indian public is emotional. If it were not for this emotion we would have never achieved Independence. When MS Dhoni is gifted a land for free for his cricketing prowess, shouldn’t it be taken back when the prowess is not helping the country. I’m not sure what kinda high pedestal you want these folks to stand on. They are the ones who make BCCI and the Dhonis see the money and they have every right to protest when the team fielded by BCCI fails. Especially when Dhoni is building a house not out of his pocket but out of largesse from Govt. due to his talent.
Do you know that this same Dhoni had a policemen transferred out because he stopped Dhoni’s car that had privacy glass which is not permitted. Let me be branded kattu mirandi but I fully stand behind the Indian fan. When BCCI and the Govt. act according to Merit and send good teams and create good Governance then we will shed our emotions and be good citizens.

Religion and Cricket have been the most sensitive issues in India, will never get solved or justified. Too sad. Guess we should move on…:)
on 21 Mar 2007 at 2:17 pm # ...
…
are u a ferrari supporter ?
i wouldnt have anything to say, if i built my house not on my salary, but on the appreciation tokens of people who admire me. Ask Dhoni to get a house built from what cricketeers of a couple of decades ago got. Only their match money. And even the match money increases cos of fans. And their craze. So cricketeers like filmstars do owe to their fans. Fans dont go destroy the house of a Viswanathan Anand, or a Leander Paes, whether they win or lose. Neither do they worship them.
You think before you talk, not vice-versa.

But, remember losing too, can be graceful. You dont have to stick to your point even at the end of the cliff.

on 21 Mar 2007 at 6:57 pm # ...
That was for you .. “Losing too can be graceful”. When you lose so gracefully in a mundane comment argument, not worth a penny in both our lives, I dont know how you saw logic in expecting others to take a loss gracefully, after all that they invest (not only money) in supporting their team?. And btw, I was not supporting anyone. Do you see an argument for an argument’s sake??
why should there always be an ideology or judegement behind every word??? I just said I did not like the way you present a case, and whip up passions in your so called blogosphere !! This is just an instance. In every occassion where I have commented critically, this has been the case. And you have a bunch of people to agree with you in the “same tone”. Each one to his own opinion, i dont question that, but the tone of the discussion degrades to something befitting the fanatics and loonies. If you still dont follow my point, you can continue to be “happy”
on 21 Mar 2007 at 7:48 pm # F e r r a r i
….,
Ok. I will explain for the final time. In this case, you have missed one big thing. Dhoni did not commit any crime. But the people who broke his house, did. And they are not arrested, condemned. The attitude is ‘Yeah its ok, he deserves it’. Hello?
Dhoni is rich because of his game. Because the sponsors think, they can milk money by showcasing Dhoni in the ads. Not vice versa. Now, if same Dhoni is playing badly, it is upto the sponsors to stop airing his ads or terminating the contract. And upto the cricket board to drop him. Do you see any ads featuring Suresh Raina or Mohd Kaif? And tell me the fans investment in Dhoni’s house, please?
If you do not like what I say, then, it is your problem. I am not here to please you
I dont think I am influential in the blogosphere. And what did I do? Whipped up the passion, eh? Against whom? Did I ask someone to go and break someones house or burn effigies? Tell me, where was I wrong?
And you have all right to say anything about me or my posts. Thats why I keep the comments section open. I never delete comments, unless people paste mp3 links. But it would be good if you can keep your comments within yourself, about the discussions I have with my readers
Frustration leads to no where, right? All this while, I have been showing my anger towards people who break the law. But you show the anger towards us, and call it lunatic discussion, just because you do not agree. Not fair
Lastly, what is this about winning the argument? Is that what you want? If that is the case, then I guess I wasted my time.

“break someones house or burn effigies? Tell me, where was I wrong?”
Respected Sir,
You wouldnt be asking this question if you had read my first comment fully.
At the cost of repeating myself,
“I dont know why I am countering what you say, even though I might be agreeing with you.. Jus that the way you express your opinions, is way too crude.”
And for instances of crudeness in your post :
“Scoundrels.
Half the rascals bunk office, or leave early to watch matches. And they have the bloody audacity to go and burn effigies? You are not even worth of a effigy, remember that. I am really ashamed to say, these people are also my countrymen. Chee! “
And one more assumption you have made is that the country is made of only office going people, viz-a-viz the software professional. The typical softie doesnt step out of his house to cast his vote, (not willing to waste a govt holiday) and you expect him to go out on the streets and burn effigies ??? !!! All that he might probably do is do a Chee on the “blogosphere”.
And at the risk of flattery, you are popular in the blog circles, at least amongst the tamilian junta, to such an extent that you website is blocked by my office’s proxy server in Chennai !!(Its fine in Bangy though..)
So, please act with the responsibilty that accompanies popularity.
Your intentions may not be inflammatory, but your words are.
And before you question something, take an effort to understand it. By investment, i did not mean direct investment and investment that is not strictly monetary. And besides, inspite of the middle men (sponsors, TV channels etc.) Its the player and the fan that share a relationship. The fan admires the player, and the rest are channels to relate teh two.Hence the player is responsible directly to the public. If not on papers, atleast on moral grounds. If not for the public, and their fervour, Dhoni wouldnt be the demi-god that he is. (Please recollect my example of Viswanathan Anand and Paes. Anand’s acheivements deserve more merit in terms of consistency and performance that Dhoni’s but still Dhoni is better known than Anand.) But my justification does not explain mob hyestria. No justification in this world is capable of explaining it. But the sentiments that go into building mob frenzy are just magnifications of the ones that promote your “comment discussions”.
Yours humbly,
…
P.S:The above statements do not carry an iota of sarcasm or ill intentions. They purely express my views in an objective manner. I dont hold any personal grudge against you. Please re-read the comment with this clarification in mind, and then respond.
