Today is Karadayan Nonbu. This is the first time for me. My in laws are coming from chennai, to help my wife in this. It seems the ceremony is at 5 or so in the evening. Shall I take full day leave? Should I wear 9-yard veshti for this? And how do I entertain my in-laws? They will be here for the entire week?

Looks like you have lots of leave. Give me one. You don’t need to do anything. This is one of the few days, where your wife will fall in your leg. Enjoy! And it is not 9-yard veshti. If you wear 9-yard veshti you might end up looking like sadha in the song andankaaka. You must wear 8 muzham veshti. Your wife will be wearing a 9-yard saree, Though it will be just you, your wife and in laws at home, your wife will take atleast 1.5 hrs to wear the 9-yard saree. You might to have entertain your father in law in that time by talking cliched topics like ‘Madras-Bangalore road super la. Bus ellam parakaraan’,'Inniku Sensex 500 points down aam. And you don’t need to do anything special for entertaining your in-laws. Send them to the Big Bazaar one day by saying things like ‘Karadayan nonbu kaaga Big Bazaar la special sale. 2 kilo thakaali vaangina ‘veerasamy’ CD free’. Your FIL wont know that once you get into Big Bazaar it will take 2 hrs to come out. Take them to Brindavan restaurant in MG Road another day by saying, you get the best rosemilk there. By the time you go and come back, it will be 10 PM. Your MIL would have missed Aanandham and Kolangal. She would never ever want to step out of home in evening. So, you dont need to do anything special. Enjoy MIL’s cooking, compliment her when your wife is not around and have fun.
