Lucky Winner!

Today afternoon I received a call from some ‘Tours & Travel’ company. I forgot its name. The caller said, I won a prize worth 7,000 Rs in a lucky draw. I hadn’t taken part in any lucky draw and was confused. The guy said, they pick random mobile phone numbers as winners. Well, I was not sure how to react. The guy gave me an address in Koramangala, and asked me to be there by 6 PM. I said ok, and was about to cut the call. The guy said ‘Sir, Looking forward to see you and Mrs.’ I said ‘I don’t have any Mrs.’ Then he said ‘Sorry sir. Only couples are eligible for this!’

So, there was no prize for me :) My question is why can’t single guys enjoy tourism? Silly fellows, I say! What has marital status got to do with Tourism? I would say, single guys enjoy more while traveling than the married folks. They don’t need to worry about walking speed, mode of travel and many other trivial things which doesn’t matter when you are single!

  1. You know why they wanted you there no? It’s a big scam by people like Royal Goan Beach Club to try to get you to buy a timeshare or such. They make random calls like this and will disconnect if you ask them to fax you a letter on their letterhead giving the details of the prize.

If you are married and you go there, they will make you sit through a presentation about their club which costs some 2 laksh to join and then push like mad. I saw this first hand – got an offer at one of their resorts for Rs. 3000 for seven days (totally, not per day) which I grabbed. And then I go to Goa and they make me and my wife sit through a three hour presentation, after which we said “No” to every question they asked. They even told us they will let us pay monthly, very low interest and all that but I was like “No”. They were not very happy.

And I got room and board in Goa for 7 days for 3 grand. Decent place for that rate.

They choose married people because single people will pretty much spit on their face I think :)

Two weeks back , I was hurrying to meet my friend , near forum , One guy came running towards me and immediately started talking. The first word is “Execuse me sir !” with a visiting card in his hand. I stopped gave a smile and replied “Sorry friend, am running out of time,I need to go” . He added “Dont worry sir, I am not selling anything to you” with sarcastic smile in his face, I hated that. And this time only “Sorry I need to go”. Y ?, bcoz One of friends also got in to the same technique. They were walking near by Forum and a guy came with card and told them that they got a prize. Please visit this place with this card and with your CREDIT CARD. then everything happened as Deepak stated.
My friends were escaped. What is a bad idea for Marketting? Uffff…

I oppose to what Prabhu said here.

Imagine this, single person winning a tour and married couple winning the tour.

for the married guy two tickets are saved, whereas the single man only one ticket is saved.. so on that basis i would say it is only the married couple who need the ticket more, than a single guy.

Come on Prabhu get married, only then you will know the difference.. ( i was about to say difficulties, but doubt that my thangam will read this post too)..

This “technique” is employed very famously by that lousy Mahindra Resorts. As noted by one of the fellow commenter, they make you sit thru’ a 3 hr. presentation & try their darnest to make oyu buy their timeshare holiday. When I refused to be drawn to all that, I did get a redeemable 2N/3D voucher with a huge list of terms & conditions. To cut the story short, I could not avail it between the months of Oct to Dec / Jan 15 to Mar / Apr to Sep & so no. In short, no freebies !

I feel totally connected with the second part of your post prabhu..i often wonder people look at me differently when i say am travelling alone..and a standard reply from the plp is “kalynam pannitu avalayum kootitu sutha vendiyadhu thaana??.”..
I know it will be a different experience when u go out with ur wife. but bachelora suthura sugamae thani thaan..:))

  10. ... says:

ur marital status would be signficant based on the prize they might offer… my parents once travelled for 1 and half hour to get a dark purple coloured milton flask set, which leaked. And this was 6 years ago in good old chennai. Old trick, boss.

    Hahaha..Thts a bad luck..
    Better luck next time.. :)

  12. geetha says:

I pity u ;D… Probably it shud be bcoz its easy to convince one of them when there are two people available ….and the target is achieved comparatively easier :)

anyways to rule out such losses in future get married soon :D

  13. Deepa Palat says:

    Hey Prabhu / Sudhakar,

I seriously wonder what is that you get as “Sugham”, when you tour single or with a single’s group. again as a single.

Pakkathula superaavo, illa ungalukku thagunthamaathiri sumaaraanavo partnera koottikittu, avanga thol mela kai pottu, idicha maadhiriyum, idikkaatha mathiriyum, oru decent romantic walk panradhula kidaikira sugam, kaila oru beer bottlodayum, vaaila cigarrettodayum, kalyanam panna ponnu, pannaatha ponnunnu vithiyasam paakkama sight adichittu nadakkarathula kidaikkumaa? I doubt!

if i am reading it right..
are you deepa or deepak ??

thought it was a typo after reading your comment :D )

  15. Prabhu says:

    Deepak,
Thanks mate. After reading your comment, i got the bigger picture. The guy called me again, and said good bye ;)

    Arun,
    :)

    RamC,
Oh yeah. Its very tough to approach forum on weekends, without getting caught by this guys. But try entering from the parking area ;)

    ramize_27,
    Err, I am happy :D

    JATS,
I think they offered the resort stay as prize. Not the tickets ;) He he. Thangamani kitta ivlo bayamaa? :P

    Mukunth,
Otherwise, How is Mahindra Resorts? I mean features and facilities wise.

    sami,
    :)

    sudhakar,
    Very true!

    Ponnarasi and Geetha,
    Ha ha :) )

    Deepa Palat,
Do you watch a lot of movies? And what makes you think, all single guys who on a picnic have a bottle on one hand, and cigg on other hand?
And I guess this thoal la thatradhu, pal la thatradhu etc can be confined to the 4 walls, and need not be a public display! I think one goes for a picnic to enjoy the beauty of nature. Not for holding hands or for romantic walks!! Get out of this stupid assumptions about life!

    JATS,
Exactly! Even I had the same doubt. But not just she, many people have wrong ideas about single guys. Hilarious to read, but ;)

  16. geetha says:

Even I wonder prabhu… how come u go alone to all the places… without even friends accompanying…
don u miss company when u admire things that are worth sharing.. especially when u r on a trip…haridwar..rajasthan.. hmmm..

  17. Chennai Ponnu says:

I would love to travel alone too…But have never had the opportunity to since I am a girl. So I would never know how it feels while traveling alone. But I dont think I would enjoy it quite as much without company (boy or girl or just about anyone!) because I cant do without talking..:-)
