New year service, new resolutions to make (then break!!), new dress, royal collection from mom and dad, new year programmes on tv, a new calendar year and hence a new diary, bonuses at workplace, the thrill of having a countdown to begin the new year, a hope that the current year will be too good, the non-stop smses and calls that disturb you, I can say more.
Vaikunta ekadasi - Idhu enna festival?
To …. - Prayer kooda oru vagaila celebration thaan. We are celebrating our love for our creator.. Illaya?
Bindu, No… wont agree that prayer is a mass celebration… is something personal ultimately… even if done en masse… Ferrari, expected a better response from u…
One person wishing happy Vaikunta ekadasi & another saying that prayer is a mass celebration?
Thank god, the Azhwars, Ramanujar, Manavala mamunigal, Aalavandan and the rest of the greatest Vaishnava Acharyas are not alive to see this…

Whats right to you need not be right to me. I dont need to explain to you, what I do. If you feel it is not a day to be happy, go ahead. Its your wish. No one is stopping you
Anonymous,
Whats wrong in wishing happy vaikunta ekadasi? Why do millions of people wait in front of the temple in this cold weather? To become sad? To cry?
New Year is a calendar event periodically celebrated based on custom math( English Calendar, Tamil Calendar, Telugu, kannada, etc etc ). Ekadesi is a true ritual about a mythical story followed and belived to be like that.
I just don’t understanding the concept of “Framing resolution for the new year eve”. if any body wanted to give up their negatations they will give up that moment rather than waiting for a new year to take a stock to leave that. So turning a calendar just cook ur age and experiance rather than any thing else.
in fact i had posted similar thing ot my blog ( of-course the flavor is different of u)
agree that prayer is something personal.. even if done en masse. It doesn’t mean that one shouldnt celebrate it just because it is personal.
Appadi paathaa, neraya vishayathukku naama celebrate panna mudiyaadhu. Again, this is a personal territory. One would like his prayers to be solemn devoid of all music.. While someone else might practise it differently.
Even birthday is personal for that matter. What about wedding day?
vaikunta ekaadashi is something to celebrate. all glorious aachaaryas mentioned earlier would sure have approved of it. Their message was to take the masses to divine. I think they would not approve of any other celebration.
Also Ferrari did not mention any celebration originally. It was just a ‘happy’ wish. So ‘….’ got something wrong somewhere.

A,
it is always good to set a date for ur goal. to give up a habit immediately is almost impossible. hence doctors and psychologists suggest choosing a date from the calender & set a target. it makes u think, y not begin the new yr in a different way? it certainly helps in achieving it.
