What are you doing for New Year?

What are you doing for new year eve? Since we are working on January 1st, myself and my friend Maverick decided to spend the new year at home by watching some good movie on DVD. At that time, I don’t know why, but I remembered that Sivaji song ‘Indhiya naadu nam naadu indhiyan enbadhu nam peru’ from the movie bharatha vilas. What a pathetic song? Have you seen it? The dance steps of Sivaji, VK Ramasamy, Major Sundararajan etc will make even Devayani laugh. And lyrics like ‘padachon padachon engala padachon’, and ‘enu saami illinodu enga ooru mysooru’ are really funny.

And just when the song ends, Sivaji will get heart attack and fall on the floor. Oh man! his expressions when he develops chest pain are hilarious. Its a priceless moment. Do watch that song, if you get a chance. I dont have the youtube link unfortunately :(

they used to play this song in oliyum oliyum on independence day. but i’ve never seen the end. got to watch it. btw, there’s a movie in which sivaji plays mridangam but the focus will be on his facial expressions.

I am glad to find another person who considers Sivaji as a comedian. For the same reason we have started collecting some of his DVDs. We are searching for “Mirudanga Chakravarthi”… All his gimmicks towards the end are just tooooooo much

Ungalai Ellam Kamal’s 70′s movies paarka vekkanum.(also early 80′s gems like Andha Oru Nimidam etc) :-)

Its easy to criticise Sivaji’s movies today after 3 decades. Wait & watch the so-called actor Kamal’s movies ten or 15 years hence (like Guna, Alavandan, etc). You will have a hilarious time. Its inevitable tastes change over generations & what was good acting for many in those times may not be so for some today. Not for nothing Sivaji is hailed as the Guru of acting & got sevral awards even from abroad.

  5. RK,
    That was Mridanga chakravarthy!

    Balaji,
    :)

    raj and Arunachalam,
Hold it. I didn’t call him a bad actor. For me that scene was hilarious. To equate with cricket, Shane Warne is a great bowler. Hasn’t he been hit for six or bowled bad balls? Do you mean to say, Sivaji is untouchable because he is a great actor and won so many awards? And if you want to criticize Kamal, it is your wish. No one is stopping you! Everyone has a right to express what they feel :)

Recently saw Thillana Mohanambal on TV. There is a seen where he gets hurt on the shoulder and rolls all over the floor and the poor audience stare at him in disbelief!.Truly hilarious and much more comical than the one in Bharatha Vilas

  7. Ratha Kaneer says:

Yes laugh at Sivaji and hail the great acting of today’s Simbu, Danush and Vijay.

Tamils don’t deserve people like Sivaji, Ilayaraja or AR Rahman!

  8. Ratha Kaneer,
Dont overact. Just because I made of sivaji in one scene, does not make me a fan of simbhu, dhanush and Vijay :-) In fact sivaji doesnt deserve fans like you, who blindly follow people and are so biased and judgemental!

  9. Ratha Kaneer says:

    Thank you F e r r a r i.
    May your tribe grow. :)

  10. Ha ha ha :-) What next? Call me a T Rajendar fan no!

  11. Ratha Kaneer says:

    No F e r r a r i. I will not dream of saying that. Why should I insult you for your opinion? ;)

  12. You did now. By calling me a simbhu, dhanush and vijay fan :(

  13. Ratha Kaneer says:

    Sorry F e r r a r i.
I didn’t mean you personally. It is just the way of the world nowadays. Dimaonds have lost the sparkle. People are fascinated by false glitter. So much so, they fail to realise the value of the real thing.

OK, let me stop lamenting. :P
Guess seeing a 2nd post of yours demeaning NT struck a chord in me.
    Sorry. :(

  14. No need to be sorry! I somehow missed writing about some good movies of Sivaji. Thats why this image of Sivaji hater. I am not a Sivaji hater. Just that I find some scenes like the one mentioned above hilarious. That is all!

  15. Ratha Kaneer says:

    Ok truce.
I never imagined you to be a Sivaji hater. No one with any minute amount of class can hate Sivaji. :P

    Wishing you a great 2007!:)
And here is a Sivaji song to end 2006 with a high note!

naan unnai vaazhthi paadugiren nee vara vendum
un ninaivil mayangi aadugiren nee vara vendum
    kadantha varusham nadanthathellaam pazhaya ettile
kanindhu varum puthu varusham puthiya paattile

    :)

  16. Arunachalam says:

To all those souls who are making fun of Sivaji’s expressions while acting as a classical instrumentalist – Have you people seen the facial contortions of the famous Carnatik vocalist Sanjay Subramanyam when he performs? There are many more such examples to prove that what Sivaji did is to reflect reality.
