One girl reaches 4th round of US open. And the nation goes gaga. And 11 men in blue color, who play for BCCI and not for India keep losing non stop. Still they get maximum accolades and media attention. Whereas someone has achieved so much in chess. No one bothers. And a guy has won the european masters in Golf. No mention. Shame on Indian sports media.
And where are the pundits and cricket fans? Where is the allegation of match fixing? When is the black paint throwing/effigy burning etc happening? Come on blue billion. Show your patriotism!

Indian media thrives on cricket, bollywood and political scandals!
Knowing what happens when a media hypes up sportspersons in this country, I am happy in a way that these golfers, chess champions stay away from the media glare and not get affected by this overhype. I hope they continue to shine in their domain and get the much needed sponsors (forget the media) attention.

who said its bout their achievements? it is about money.
the women in contention, looksgood, therefore wil capture media attention. honetly her tennis sucks but since she looks good, i don mind her matches.
cricket, no one cares bout the team, but individual icons. dravid, sachin etc, and they continue to do well, so ppl follow them. they do well, sell pepsi. and idiots follow them

Yeah, vatsan is right. Also, the cricket craze is not like what it used be. I can really say its dying. However, as long as Sachin and Rahul are there, mass will follow. Then, there are those like real cricket fans, who follow cricket, watch good matches like Ashes, county cricket etc..

Golf is not a Janata sport. I’ll be swapping channels if they give more than few mins. Not many understand the stick and hole business. At least I don’t.

you are right prabhu, when sania wins or even entering the semi final she is on the front page and almost all pages. this is too much hype . and when anju george as an individual is on top, hardly any hype is given and as far as cricket is concerned, they are only loosing and so much money is paid to them. Indian sports should consider giving more importance to athelets where individual performance is seen.

Too much publicity and hype given to cricket..half of the money spent on cricket can be used to sponsor deserving sports people who want to come up but not able to due to lack of funds..

half the fellows watching cricket are wiseacres who dont understand the game.. its obv that bollywood and the media would try to exploit that.. ppl who do have an interest in the game care a heck for all this.. response to mandira on max is a prime example. some ppl want to see her, others think she shouldnt even be on the same set as the other (former) cricketers.

Glad you brought it up… i remember reading in a magazine, (this was right after the prev Cricket world cup) where the writer had commented that the losers still got the huge houses and all, while our Indian Hockey team, cudnt afford a hotel to stay in, and were living in a stationary compartment of a train. It was pityful, to see the difference. Well you know what they say, “when you point a finger elsewhere, you have three pointing back at you”. The media sells what the people want to read. Its a vicious circle, that wud need a generation to break. and i dont see ours being it… if we need a change, we ought to be the change…. cheers!

Shame on Indian media, for being equally corrupt as indian politician. When a corrupt organization like BCCI runs the show the country goes to hell and the selected few benefit. When people like Anand and Jeev work their way through the corrupt Indian system, no one wants to laud them for they are scared that this may give rise to a new Bharat. Milkha Singh rightly returned tha Arjun award from these corrupt men in power. The Indian country is for the selected few rich people in power and they think the common man does not have the right to live happily in India. My sincere advise to Jeev is to take up residency in Europe or US for his bright future. The corrupt Indian society may not understand the greatness of his father and may hamper Jeev’s progress in India.
