Why do people in India, especially the so called intellectuals and media, refer to Israel-Lebanon etc etc as middle east??? Is Israel middle east for us?

Related… somewhat: I’ve noticed some ‘intellectuals’ have a penchant for referring to underdeveloped and developing coutries as the ’southern hemisphere’. So, Australia? Plus, India’s in the northern hemisphere.
I guess these terms take on a meaning that have little or no literal denotation. Sometimes habit, sometimes ’scene’.

If you accept that GMT is indeed the Universal time, then Lebanon & Israel are middle east.
If you agree that latitudes & longitudes have some scientific meaning, then of course, Lebanon & Israel are Middle East countries.
It is good to be smart, but by doing these silly things (read posting such silly posts) you are just one of those smart-alecs and NO DIFFERENT.
Just my two cents.

i guess thats based on the location of the countries in the world map rite…..so it becomes a general usage for eveone…

europeans had started referring to those countries as middle east from their location… in the world…. and the usage is deeprooted…now..
i jus checked in wikipedia ..hehehe….

its bcos in the atlas these countries lie in the middle of the eastern hemisphere.
