Its funny when people mention Kaakha Kaakha as a great cop movie. Great cop movies are ‘Kurudhi Punal’ and ‘Ab Tak Chappan’. Kaakha Kaakha was stylish, and movie became hit for Surya(Guess this was a landmark movie for his career), Jothika(I dont like her, but I see many people go gaga over her character in this movie) and editing(This was the best part of the movie, and few people talk about it). So there. And that movie was anything apart from being realistic! Dont get me wrong. It was a good movie, and a welcome break for tamil cinema. But its not a milestone movie, and definitely not a benchmark for cop movies.
I think I will wait for the dust to settle down, and watch VV much later.

Yes Prabhu. Ppl should not make KK as a benchmark for cop films. Kurudhi Punal and Ab tak chappan were way ahead.
Hey you forgot all the captain movies

Karthik,
I would rate Pulan Visaranai a very well made movie of Captain!

Then how do you rate “Avasara Police 100″?

What about Managara Kaval, Alexander, Narasimha…the one man army, and other? Donno if they are great cop movies but they are our favorite ‘cop’tain movies….
Reviews are really mixed….for VV
But read one news that for preview of VV RajiniKanth was invited but Kamal was not…. Obviously Kamal was unhappy with the bounced check from the producer.

Ferrari,
Enakku LG’s blog’la nadandha antha long discussion nyabagathukku varudhu :).
I am just repeating what I said then, it’s blasphemous, imo, to bracket it along with Kuruthippunal with whatever set of disclaimers.

Couldn’t agree with you more. KK was well presented but no way a cult classic. VV is a decent attempt, realistic nu solli Kamal and Jo va makeup ilama eduthirukanga… Scary! Seriously they should’ve avoided romance scenes for Kamal he looks too old even with a 1/2 kezahavi Jo. Climax – pakka abhatham, I thought Ragavan would let some steam out but it’s just unimpressive.
Expectations ellam vetla vechitu parunga it’s not that bad either.

If your expectations are pegged by Kurudhi Punal and Ab Tak Chappan, then you might be in for a dissapointment. I was sinking in my seat watching Kamal subjecting himself to Gautam’s , err, direction or whatever you call it.

Am not gonna say anything different from what other’s have been sayin’!! KK is defly stylish yeah…but the movie was hardly anything close to being realistic….First half found us watchin’ Surya-Jo romancing and 2nd half was abt the routine hero-villain chasin’!!! Pretty typical!!!Havent seen Ab Tak Chappan…so to me Kurudhi Punal is THE best cop movie ever made…KK is juz a movie wid some gud music, decent performances and brilliant cinematography!!! I never understood what made ppl say Gautham Menon is a gud director from watching THT movie!Duh!

wen u had gabtun styled movies, kakha kakha is a good movie, it neednt be realistic
let the dust settle, watch VV and watch Vasool Raja
appo puyriyum the kamal screwup

i thought surya’s landmark movie was nanda, right?
and i agree both ab tak chappan and kuruthipunal were much better.

I feel its a different attempt to try cop story. KK its a tight mixture of cop-story with different perpective. VV yup its not a cop story at all its just a pshycopath thriller. otherwise after bharthiraj, balachander , maniratham , gowtham gave nice whack to kamal and he acted as per directors touch. definitely it might be a sequel to Kk.
over its a normal movie shaded with a bollywood stragety. render the movie a different location so that people will not get bored like HUM-TUM, ANTONY KHAUN HAI, BLACK etc.

FERRO,
Did you read the ‘Hindu’today. The Friday feature has a write up on the shooting spot of ‘Vattaram’(Arya-Saran).towards the end,Saran says he will be directing Kamal after ‘Dasa’-finalized.Don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
AS for VV,will be watching it this weekend, until then ‘No Comments’.
