I just happened to stumble upon this site. Just wanted to share some comments:

1) First, they aren’t called Hare Rama Hare Krishna. The term for them is ISKCON devotees or Hare Krishna devotees.

2) It’s amazing how much the western devotees have contributed towards vaishnavism (both black and white devotees). They maintain very high standards of worship with a lot of emphasis on systematic organisation and cleanliness - something that many of our typical hindu temples fail to take care of.

3) It’s true that they don’t eat outside food.Whatever they consume is seen as an offering from the Lord (prasadam) and that prasadam is seen as partaking Lord Krishna’s mercy.

4) Preaching work generally won’t be done with force - that is not the instruction of Srila Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON. If that devotee is selling articles by force, then he is indeed not doing his job well.

I am sharing this because i am a Hare Krishna devotee since 1987, when i was a child. Just to clear some misconceptions and shed some light. Haribol!

Actually over here we find the hare krishna firangi devotees scary - or probably its the same guy - we’ve been seeing him for years at the local eateries - hes big in size n goes around selling mahabharatham and agarbathi - ppl tend to run away from him coz he can be soooooooooooooooooo irritating - he’ll insist u buy something from him - if u say u have the mahabharatham - hell say that buy the agarbathi n hell argue with u if u dont - n occasionaly scold ppl as well - hes a scary one

I got to know from my friend is US that these HaraRam people will not eat anything from outside and they cook themselves all the time ! Very tough ..

A phirangi once told me that he likes wearing HRHK kurtas mainly due to the color of kurtas and their design. He has a point though.. since it will suit their skin color

ahaha I have seen coupla hugely built african-american guys with kudumi (i think it is called Kudmee in englipees )singing hare rama hare krishna..

unfortunately enkau sirippu vandhadhu avanga andha madiri kudhichu kudhichu padinadha partha….in that slight brother-language accent

During each Newyear, you can see English ‘Hare Rama’ group in Boston roaming around like Maargazhi month early morning pajanai..I haven’t see any such so far in London, though.. But I remember meeting an american lady in ‘Wallgreens’ in Boston , who had ‘kungumam’ in the nethi and in saree…Initially thought that she is married to a desi guy…But after having a chat with her , came to know that she is ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ group…aahah !!!
