Someone extremely popular writes a post on chingari, and this guy comes there and asks him to join at Sulekha. Why, so that many more people read his blogs! God!
She says she is leaving the dutch land, and brings to our notice the way the dutch folks maintain their house. This fellow comes and spams there.
Annathe writes about TN elections, and he is spammed.
Ravages comes up with a funny one liner post, and this fellow spams it.
Journo madam writes something interesting on chennai, and is bit by the spam bug.
Ravi writes about mumbai, and this fellow goes there and spams. That too addressing Ravi as Mr Gupta!
This my friends is only the tip of spam berg! I dont know about others, but I am one of the few unlucky people to have received personalised emails from our spammer:-(

Adaadaa if I had known, I would have put a little bit of effort into writing that post. Maybe I should have another look at it

The best part was the Mr. Gupta comment. BTW, I also received a personalized email.
Ah! Very irritating!!! Stupid way of making people blog in there.
Me received an email too. And multiple (i.e. two) comments in un-related (obviously) posts. The latest comment pissed me off because it was not meant to be one of my frivolous posts and I genuinely wanted people to ask me questions. It was even more frustrating because the original post did not seem to get too many comments and I thought I should do a followup just to spread the word to more people. I lose sleep over that post and this morning I wake up to see spam! Grrrr…I deleted it and I dont want to another post because that will push my latest post down
I also recieved a personal email, but luckily no spam on my blog yet
I don’t want to play Devil’s advocate here but Karthik is a nice chap. many of us must have met him in chennai blogger meets. i didn’t expect him to spam blogs like this which is boring stuff. a better idea is to mail people once or at the most, twice. but i think we should allow him to come to know of this stop by himself rather than creating sticky posts in desi pundit
i think suklekha is at a mistake here. they want to tap the blogging potential in india but they have such a bad blogging tool and interface that cannot in any way scale up to blogger or any other blogging platforms.
and the reason to respond to this a little aggresively they have screwed up a golden oppurtunity to be the first alternative desi site by cluttering it with image ads and stuff which looks like more of a craigslist with pictures. good writing has ceased to exist there.
ive seen the kids blog – so havent thought of him as spam – but it is getting a bit out of hand
WA,
Kaps,
He doesnt even read the blog posts!
sk,
It is it is!
aNTI,
True!
Lazy,
Hope Kartik understands atleast now. This wont be a sticky post and all
First things first. Even I have met this guy. I was really surprised when i received the spam mails. I was wondering whether it was the same kartik kannan we met in chennai. Later, I came to know he has been doing the same for everyone. I personally sent him a email asking him not to do this. Many other people did as well.
In fact, one girl had written about blank noise blogathon and how she was affected. This fellow comes there and comments ‘Hi, I liked this post of yours’ and etc etc. He doesnt even read what people have written.
Point is, even after many people kept telling him politely that he shouldnt be doing what he is doing he cared a damn.
All he managed to do was to change the template of his spam mail. He is taking people for granted. Or rather, he has been instructed by Sulekha to do so. Things were getting overboard and as a result this outburst. Thats all
visithra,
Yeah almost every one has been ignoring him. But he took it lightly and went bit too far, and hence this outburst!
me 2 not too happy with him…me also got spammed in my blogathon post
wasnt he working for some gr8 company? did he quit that?
Hey he came to my blog. My blogs are not updated properly even then he spammed it:). I sent a personalized mail to him. But he never replied for it.
I also got the email and he will never replies to any of your emails.
Ferro missed ur he-she..supera irundudu for once “He” kattula mazhai
Guys.. Do any of you use Bloglines? I saw a post from someone else about this issue and that post might be key. But I cannot see it on the person’s blog. Bloglines still has it.
Prabhu,
I’ll second LazyGeek (Guru). Kartik is a nice chap. I work with him and in a way should own up for the deed. We might have gotten overzealous. Sure, had the not so good feeling all along about posting comments. In hindsight, that’s a mistake. Corrective steps have been taken immediately.
There were a few stuff which might really work up to a bloggers advantage. Lemme explain. We have tied up with Penguin where the best blog posts get published as a book. Tie up with Indian Express, DNA, Mans World, where the best blogs get published. Add to that a revenue sharing possibility. Thought this might be genuinely useful to folks. I agree it was not communicatd well. And yup, nobody likes to get spam comments and unsolicited mails. Mistake accepted and lesson learnt. And a genuine apology to all.
As an insider, I know for certain that there is the good intention of getting good writers together. Thanks all for the feedback.
Yup! I saw the apology post on bloglines too.
Kiruba,
Thanks for the comment. Even I have met Kartik. No doubt he is a nice guy. This post was not against Kartik the individual, but against idea of adverstisement.
It irks when some writes a serious post, and without even reading what the post is about a person comes and advertises something.
Thats all. As Chenthil said, lets leave it as it is
