Rang De Basanti - Music Review
This is the 1st ARR Album I am buying after buying the Bose speakers
I dont have any music knowledge. And I have zero knowledge when it comes to the technicalities of the composing and all. You will definitely find better reviews of the musical album. But one thing for sure. This review is from the bottom of the heart of a die hard AR Rahman fan.
1. Ik Onkaar
This is kind of a prayer song. By the time you get into the mood, the song gets over.
2.Rang De Basanti
Title track. The one thats been appearing in the trailers. One of the few ARR songs that hooks you on the first hearing itself. Was bit skeptical about Daler Mehndi. But that was highly unnecessary. He has done a good job. Am sure this song is going to stay in the dance floors of all pubs for quite sometime. Really peppy song. It does lift your spirits! I would suggest you not to listen this while driving in the city
But a must listen while going on long drive. Full josh song!
3. Paathshala
Well. What do I say? I suggest you to listen to this song first in the CD. Oh man! Especially the percussion.Naresh Iyer has done a pretty good job. If you love drum beats then THIS is the song that you will keep on hearing for some time to come. This song has modern lyrics.
Lose Control
I am a rebel
Na koi padhnevala, na koi sikhne vala
apni to paatshaala, masti ki paatshala
And in the middle guitar piece. Wow. It silently sneaks in somewhere in the middle and same way disappears. And in the end of the song, you hear engine sounds. Engine revving. Not normal engines. A Ferrari or BMW Sports car kind of engine revs. And the best part is at the end of the song, the chorus just transforms to a police siren. Well. When does it transform? Was it the police siren only from beginning? Repeated hearings should tell
And what I considered the end was not the actual end
One random beat reappears.
(In case you havent rushed to buy the CD/Cassette continue reading)
4.Tu Bin Bataye
The combination of Madhushree and Naresh Iyer once again after ‘Mayilirage’. Its a slow and romantic song. Actually the only romantic song in the album. Is it for Soha Ali Khan and R.Madhavan? If Madhushree sticks to just hindi songs, she will definitely win more fans. Actually am bit disappointed why ARR didnt use flute in this song.In fact no flute in the entire album
Ideal song for Naveen’s flute. Nevertheless a very sweet and cute song. And the lyrics suggest that the lovers are missing each other.
tu bin bataye
mujhe le chal kahin
jahaan tu muskuraaye
Meri manzil vaahin
Naresh Iyer comes pretty late at the song. But makes his presence felt very well.
5. Khalbali
I dont know how many people will agree to me. But, this is my favorite song in the album. Especially the way Rahman sings it. A different dimension to Rahman’s voice.I wish some one with technical knowledge to explain it. Try to use the accelerator and brake at same time. His voice is moving, and at same time stopping. You get what I mean? Its so catchy. There are some arabic verses in the middle. Especialy the guy singing ziddi ziddi ziddi takes me to a different planet altogether. The second longest song in the album. And in some part of the song(from 04.23 to 04.33) I hear sounds like udukkai(Whats the word for udukkai in english?). This song is completely different from a normal song. Its not romantic. Its not fast beat song. I dont know what to call it. But am hooked to it.
6. Khoon Chala
Is Mohit chauhan a new singer? Or he has sung before? He reminds me a lot of Roop Kumar Rathod. I wasnt impressed in the first 2 hearings. Think it has to grow on. And I liked the lyrics of this song a lot
Badan se tapak kar
Zameen se lipat kar
Galiyon se raston se
Ubhar kar, umad kar
(You are still here? I thought you had rushed to buy the CD)
7.Paatshala - Be a Rebel
Blaaze is sure to have millions of more fans after this song
To the mahal of the taj
To the minar of Qutub
To the kumari of Kanya
To the panjim of goa
To the kanchipuram
Zinda-bad Zinda-good
Very tough to choose between the 3rd song and this one
ARR has spoilt his fans for choices ![]()
And at the end of the end a guy hums ah haha ah haha. Thats neat
8.Luka Chuppi
Mom son song. Lata Mangeshkar and AR Rahman have sung together for the first time. Am sure everyone will be reminded of their mom when Lata sings
kahan kahan dhoondha tujhe
thak gayi hai ab teri maa
aaja saanjh hui mujhe teri fikar
Dhundhla gayi dekh meri nazar aa ja na
I am typing this review at around 12 in the night. And when Rahman sings,
kya bataoon maa kahan hoo main
I just want to drop everything, rush to Chennai and lie on my mom’s lap. Sigh! People who stay away from their mom will be to relate to what am saying. The tabla is distinctly audible in this song. But very mildly and pleasantly.
yahaan sab kuch mai maa phir bhi
lage bin tere mujhko akela
I miss my mom
9.Lakaar
This is a narration like what we had in Iruvar. In Iruvar, the narration was a romantic one. Here it is more of an inspriational one. Aamir Khan has narrated it. Guess this comes in some point of movie, when Aamir is trying to inspire his mates. Actually there was a big hype that Aamir has sung in this movie. We cant call it as a song. Its a narration.
Sarfaroshi ka Tamanna
ab hamaare dil mei hai
10. Roobaroo
Have you heard the song ‘Puraani Jeans’? The initial narration reminds me of that. But when ARR starts singing Roobaroo Roshni, it smoothly transforms to a typical farewell song. Ideal song to be sung in college farewell. Actually if am not wrong Roobaroo is sung by naresh iyer and then AR Rahman takes forward from Roshni. Initially I thought it was AR Rahman singing Roobaroo. But then I realised the nice blend. Cool song.
This is a treat for all AR Rahman fans. I am extremely happy with this album. A MUST in your music collection. And another thing I liked in the CD was that lyrics are there for all the songs. I always wondered why many people dont print the lyrics along with the CD Cover. People will enjoy more if they have the lyrics in hand.
After a while, a non period film from AR Rahman.A very different one from others. Songs grow on you pretty fast. Lots of peppy numbers. Really to lift your spirits.
Thank you AR Rahman. Thanks a lot!

Good to see that, she didnt get away just like that for falsely accusing people of sexual abuse.
I stand corrected Thanks to Indian Express. I would go by Indian Express anyday than any other media.
Anjali Gupta case has 2 parts
1. She was charged with financial irregularities
2. She charges her seniors with sexual harrasment
Judgement has been delivered for point 1. But not for point 2. Lets pray justice is being done and the guilty dont escape. Whoever it is!
First time in life am feeling bad that I cant understand much of Kannada. The point is Kamal Hassan’s ‘Sadhi Leelavathi’ is remade in Kannada as ‘Rama Shama Bhama’. Movie is directed by Ramesh Arvind. The movie is getting released here tomorrow.
Its been quite some time since I missed Kamal’s movie on big screen. The last Kamal Hassan movie I missed watching in big screen was that stupid ‘Magarasan’.
Hmmmm!
Does any one knows the eastern most point covered by Indian Railways? I know there are trains till Guwahati. But are there trains to states like nagaland, manipur, tripura etc?
Or better, a site, where I can get Indian Railway network map?
Narain to test drive for Williams
As expected Narain is to test drive for Williams. But permanently or not?
Whatever happens, it is something good for him. Lets hope he performs well during tests and gets an odd chance once in a while, before a permanent seat!
And why is Sauber-BMW sticking with uncle Jacques?
Gujili Tea
Gujili enniram aayinum akkgujiliyin
kaalil irukkum seruppu
P.S. I know ayalnaatu gujili’s mostly wear shoes. But kaalaNi doesnt give the impact as seruppu ![]()
And I hope everyone understood this!
Judiciary is one thing that acts as the saving grace. Let it be the Bihar Assembly dissolution, or the recent khushboo controversy, law seems to be doing its job. But a bit late ![]()
Madras High Court has stayed the cases against Khushboo and Suhasini. Thats good. They should go one step further and punish the scoundrels who caused this mess! And surprisingly almost everyone is quiet
Is it like people will open up only to crib and complain?
Wish the allotment of judges happens quickly, and justice gets done on time for many a people!
