Do I need to say anything about this song?
After that english beginning, SPB starts singing so slowly. Romba anubavichu paadi irukkaar.
en kaadhale en kaadhale ennai enna seyya pogiraai
naan oviyan endru therindhum nee yaen kaNNiraNdai kaetkiraai
siluvaigaL siRagugaL reNdil enna thara poagiraai
kiLLuvadhai kiLLi vittu yaen thaLLi nindru paarkiraai
(en kaadhale)
kaadhale nee pooverindhaal endha malaiyum konjam kuzhayum
kaadhale nee kallerindhaal endha kadalum konjam kalangum
ini meeLvadha illai veezhvadha

amudhenbadha vishamenbadha illai amudha vishamenbadhaa
(en kaadhale)
At this time, the tune suddenly changes to ‘anjali anjali’. Kadri Gopalnath kalakki irupaar. And picturisation, Prabhu baloon oodharavan madhiri asinga paduthi irupaan X(
kaadhale un kaaladiyil naan vizhundhu vizhundhu thozhudhaen

Vairamuthu has just played with the words here
idhu maatramaa thadumaatrama en nenjile pani mootamaa

The first song that I fell in love with from the movie “Duet”. I was surprised that many people did not know about this movie. It was kinda different in Mumbai when ARR was new, people did not know much about him… and I was the odd one out who followed ARR closely. The sax entenders the songs even more… I did study Tamil in school but not the extent of you guys from TN. So the words “oviyan” etc did not bring much emotion. I followed most parts of the song, but the better parts were left out. Much later when I started understanding metaphorical beauty of Tamil, I listened this song and loved it all the more. Then the line “Naan Oviyan Enrum Therinthum Nee Kannirendai Kaetkiraai” became a favorite. It tears into your heart and brings out the immense pathos that the songs seeks to convey. However, the picturisation is such a sothapal in comparison to the song. I would have had the song being sung in a more melancholic setting, increase the senti depth. Anyways… the song is one of the brilliant ones by ARR and a good example of collaboration between modern composers and classical puritans.

Superb songs with superb lyrics, and superb performance by Kadri, I think Kadri rendered some fabulous music in this film with ARR. Also Yenn Raja ivarai neriya use pannalainu oru kelviyum varuthu.
