I read this article. It seems some media companies have been fined 1000 Rs, for revealing identity of a juvenile prisoner for commerical gains.
Media should never be punished with money. I feel that they should adopt different punishments for electronic media and newspapers. For newspapers, in the front page they should have something like ‘I am Sorry’. The Editor should be holding that placard.
And for TV companies, every 30 minutes the chief should come in and say sorry.
But one very positive trend is happening. Last week the Supreme Court sent notices to slimes on their adult content, and now this.

TOI will have a permanent ‘sorry’ column. They’ll get the column sponsored by Kingfisher. They’ll be photos of starlets who feature in the ‘apology column’. There’ll be a party to celebrate ’50 weeks of being sorry’.A couple of the invitees may get a little close and the photos may hit TOI headlines…………and whoa we start again !

as such, newspapers & news channels use every opportunity to sensationalize trivial news / incidents… Suggesting these punishments will only increase the opportunity for them to continue doing so…
this is not an ordinary event. it was the high profile DPS MMS case. Rs. 1000 fine is as good as not fining them. more stringent measures are necessary. these monetary fines will not deter them. in other countries media follows policies which are beneficial some of these juvenile criminals.
