Insured

Off late, there is this ad for ‘Aviva Life Insurance’. I dont know if you have watched this commercial.
It starts like one middle aged couple, enter the airport arrival lounge. They are there to receive their son. Their son arrives with a foreigner as his wife. At that moment the ad caption goes like ‘Has Mr Mehra insured his life?’. Ridiculous. What do they mean? That Mr Mehra will get an heart attack because his son married a foreigner?
Aviva is a giant in life insurance in UK, if am not wrong. I think they can do a better job in checking the commercials. No one is a fool. Everyone knows, someday or other death is inevitable. But there is a way of telling it and selling your product, rather than retort to Karan Joharish techniques!!

Maybe they should sell insurance against children marrying someone without the parents consent :) I mean if they can insure cancelled weddings etc in the west, it must be possible for parents to take out an insurance policy when the child is born saying that if the child when grown up marries a person outside the caste/religion whatever then the parents will get so much money :)

    ferrari, can’t agree more..

btw, the tamil version of the ad sucks too! Mr Mehra becomes Mr. Iyer in the Tamil ad which does not suit the model at all.

sounds like the fair and lovely adds we have back here

first it was if a gal aint far shes not gonna get looked at, or get a suitor then after protests it was changed to can’t get a job – would you believe the ppl behind such silly adds?

I haven’t seen the ad but I kinda like what it sounds like. Haven’t you seen the Getit Yellow Pages ad where an eager (Indian) father coms to his wife’s post-labour bedside and finds the infant in the cradle to be an Afro. Then we see “Need a divorce lawyer ?”.
If we are going to be really straight we can say husbands should be broad minded and this ad undermines a possibility of people having a more mature definition of their marriage. Also ad racial slur etc. But IMO it was a fun ad and it didn’t cross any lines.Any narrowness used in the ad was already prevalent and not advocated.
    Something similar here. No ?

Yeah, I too think the ad didn’t cross its limits and offend anybody. And I guess the ad says something like ‘Have you insured your future?’ (Kal par control). Something to plan for the unexpected like what the ad shows :)

Some things in that ad are just not right:
First, the ad says that Mr. Mehra dreams of marrying his son off to some girl A, girl B, girl C and getting a house as dowry etc… And because of our ‘hero’ is already married to a foreigner, all those dreams are crushed.
Second, the ad shows that our hero is not only married, he also has a kid. I am not too sure if this talks high of us living abroad. That said, I do not know any of my friends/ known circles getting married without their parents’ knowledge, leave alone having a kid.

All because of IGNOU offering MBA degree ;) …no offence :D
